About Jessie

After living in London for 30 years Jessica now lives and works in rural somerset. She was born in Dublin Ireland in 1963

Jessica studied a BA in Fine Art at Central St Martins Art College in London, UK and a MA in Fine Art Photography at London College of Communication, London, UK.

Jessica’s art practice has evolved around documenting the daily actions from her life. From folding, carrying, hanging up, stacking to breathing, walking, painting, repeating actions again and again, creating muscle memory and gestures which she applies to her art making. She uses shamanic journeys, meditation and walking in nature to become present and still. Like watching a bird in a tree with nothing to do but watch, she too watches herself. In the watercolour painting Five Hundred and Sixty Out Breath’s she observes her breath and makes a mark only on the out breath, watching her body and hand she follows the inclination to paint a line in various directions with no idea of the outcome. In her oil paintings ‘Starseeds’ again she paints on the outbreath, and using colours inspired by shamanic journeys (journeys to the unconscious) to the underworld where she sees nature as paradise, she collects her colour pallet. She refers to her art as Medicine Painting as they contain the energy of peace and beauty which she finds from following a mindful life, her life’s work.

Jessica has shown her work internationally, was winner of the Sproxton photographic prize in 2009 and is in private collections including her two self-published books which are in the Arts council library.

Alongside her Art practice she teaches Shamanism and Art Classes.
